Food Plan and Grocery List, 102310

The weather last week turned out to be pretty crappy here in CA, so the soup worked out perfectly. I'm not sure what the weather is supposed to be like this week, but since soup is so convenient and generally healthy (well, oxtail soup maybe not so much), I've got soup in the line-up this week. A lot of soup.

I'm also planning a pasta dish, just to break up the soup monotony a bit. I'm hoping that the variety will work out. Also, I intend to have salads to accompany the soups to round out my meals better, but based on my history, that's hit or miss.

The line-up:
  • Sausage Pasta
  • Southwest Tomato Soup
  • Chicken Fajita Chili
  • Pasta Fagioli

So I bought:

Grower's Direct:
  • tomatoes: $1/1.01 lb
  • cantaloupe: $1.85/3.14 lb
  • red onion: $0.46/0.52 lb
  • brown onions: $0.54/139 lb
  • pineapple: $2.85/3.60 lb
  • romaine lettuce: $0.89/head
  • white, sweet onion: $0.31/0.64 lb
  • spinach: $1.59/10 oz
  • Sun Flour Challah Rolls: $3.99
  • TOTAL: $13.47
Ralph's
  • crushed tomatoes: $1.29/28-oz
  • spinach pasta: $3.99/1 lb
  • canellini beans: $1.19/15-oz
  • canellini beans: $1.19/15-oz
  • mild green chilies: $1.59/4-oz
  • McCormick Fajita Seasoning: $2/2 packs
  • crushed red pepper: $1
  • green bell peppers: $2/2
  • Johnsonvills hot Italian sausage: $1.99/19 oz
  • Pyrex measuring cup: $3.49 (just because I don't have a 1-cup measuring cup and it was on sale!)
  • TOTAL: $20.04, but $16 was on food.
Stater Bros (because Ralph's didn't have fire-roasted diced tomatoes)
  • fire-roasted diced tomatoes: $1.39/14.5-oz can
  • fire-roasted diced tomatoes: $1.39
  • fire-roasted diced tomatoes: $1.39
  • Better than Bouillon chicken base: $3.99, total score on sale!
  • TOTAL: $8.16

102810, Stater Bros.
  • red bell pepper: $1.50
  • orange bell pepper: $1.99
  • TOTAL: $3.49
Grand Total: $41.12.

103010, Big Lots

While not a food item or really gadgets, I did score kitchen items, a set of three Anchor Hocking 2-cup bowls with lids for a total of $6. Like Pyrex, Anchor Hocking can be used in the fridge, the freezer and the oven! I love glass! And since I've been on a soup-bender, I'm sure these will turn out to be extremely handy.
