Massimo's Pizza

I talked Rodney into trying a new pizza place, Massimo's Pizza, because according to their slightly weird website, they deliver. We hemmed and hawwed over the menu and finally made a selection. When I called it in, Eddie said they only deliver to the other side of town.

I asked Eddie if their pizza is worth driving over to pick up. Upon hearing that yes, it is, that it's family owned and ingredients are fresh, I told Eddie it better be.

Twenty minutes later, we pulled into Massimo's lot and entered the small joint for our pie. Mmm, smelled good! And our pizza was ready. I excitedly paid the man and took this box home with us.


We changed into our chubby pants and settled in front of the TV to watch a movie, which is our thing to do when we have pizza food.

And here it is, Massimo's Special:


The crust appeared to be not too thick but not too thin either. Just like Massimo's website promised, there was sauce, mozzerella cheese, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, black olives and marinated red peppers. They must have been out of red onions because we had white ones on our pie.

I cast the camera aside to start in on this bit of lovely. When Rodney and I went for our first slices, we found that the points sagged and were a bit damp. Damn. That's disappointing. But not nearly as messy as Pizza D'Oro.

Tastewise, it wasn't too bad. The sauce was good and the cheese wasn't a weird abomination. The mushrooms and olives were just as expected. The marinated peppers -- excellent. I don't think Rodney picked any off! The Italian sausage was good, but it seemed the only flavor in it was fennel. While it sounds I'm disappointed, I'm not as the sausage seemed to be a higher quality than the little balls of tasteless "meat" with decorative fennel seeds you usually get.

All in all, a decent pie from a place with great customer service from folks like Eddie who can roll with the punches. A little on the high side, but for decent sausage and marinated peppers, you pay the price.

16" Massimo's Special: $23 plus tax and toke makes it $28 out the door.

Warmed up a couple slices in a skillet for lunch and yum! The peppers, if you can believe it, are even better today!
