Nature's Reward Orange Cauliflower

You'd think an orange cauliflower is bred from a cauliflower and ... something orange,  similar to how a green one is bred from a cauliflower and broccoli.

Not true.

This is literally an orange cauliflower. Totally cauliflower, just orange.

Green cauliflower is broccoflower.

Freaky. Canadian. Mutant. Ok, the original one discovered in 1970 was mutant, this one is mutant:normal offspring.

Loaded with beta carotene, I can't tell a difference in taste between this and a regular white cauliflower.

I'll find out how it tastes when roasted with a chicken.

Looking up cauliflower in Larousse Gastronomique, I learned this:
Described by Arab botanists and known to the Romans, the cauliflower originally came from Cyprus and was introduced to France from Italy in the middle of the 16th century. Having been served to Louis XIV, the cauliflower was cultivated extensively, particularly in Brittany.
Orange cauliflower, available at some Ralph's locations for $3.22 per 2.16 lb head or $1.49/lb.
